NEWPORT PAGNELL
Gift Wrapping was the subject for our September meeting, when Alison Grantham came to show us how to make our presents look festive and fun. Alison is very much into recycling and suggested we should keep ribbons, coloured cellophane, tissue paper, old
cards and such like in order to personalise wrappings for new gifts. Cards and wrapping paper can be cut into small pieces to make labels, while string, ribbons and raffia can all be used to tie up your parcels, and coloured pens make a change from the usual blue or black biro.
We all have awkward shapes to wrap at times, and Alison suggested these could be put into boxes which are much easier to deal with. Bottles could just be placed into tissue or cellophane gathered up around the neck and secured with a ribbon.
Most of us have access to a computer these days so making a personalised card or message is relatively simple using some of the patterns and fonts available in the software.
In January most stores are selling off their Christmas cards and wrapping paper quite cheaply and this is a good time to stock up, and to look out for broken ornaments and decorations to recycle. Alison showed us many fun and original ways to make our presents look attractive without being too expensive, and most of us will no doubt be bearing this in mind in the coming weeks.
The competition (letter J) was won by June Weston with a sprig of jasmine in a pretty jug, second Barbara Hilton with a jade pendant, third Gill Senior with a miniature china jug.
The raffle was won by Barbara Hilton, second Lorraine Sapwell. This month we held our Harvest Stall when members brought home made produce, together with beans, tomatoes and other fruit, vegetables and plants from their gardens for sale.
Newport Pagnell Womenʼs Institute meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Royal British Legion Club, and is always delighted to welcome new members. October is our AGM and we will entertain ourselves with poems, readings and anecdotes.
