Dick Whittington is one of only a handful of pantomimes based on a true story and a British story at that. It tells of a poor boy who comes good, making his fame and fortune and living happily ever after with the help of his cat.
The pantomime version sees Dickʼs luck turn to fortune when he sends his rat catching cat off on his employers trade ship. The cat gets sold for huge amounts to a king with a palace overrun with mice and rats. This makes Dick a rich man, he marries his love, Alice Fitzwarren and in time becomes Lord Mayor of London, three times over.

It is produced by David Pibworth (columnist here in the Phonebox) who also plays the character of King Rat.

As for the cat, the story is a little more hazy and there is no record of Richard having a
