THE ROTARY
CLUB
OF NEWPORT PAGNELL
YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR, 2013
In conjunction with the Milton Keynes Music Service and local Rotary Clubs, including the Rotary Club of Newport Pagnell, the local heat of ʻYoung Musician of the Yearʼ was held recently at the Chrysalis Theatre, Camp Hill.
In front of a large and enthusiastic audience, Athene Broad, (Flute), Tom Dixon, (Trombone), Joseph Hyde (Piano) James Westlake (Flute) and Robert Grinyer (Cello) presented us with an excellent evening of music.
Also appearing were the MK Youth Brass and last years winner, Hannah Slaving, an absolute piano wizard.
The winning trophy this year was presented by Hannah to James Westlake, a very talented young flautist whoʼs reputation is growing in Milton Keynes and beyond. He is frequently in demand for recitals and orchestral engagements, plays in the Cornerstone Chamber Orchestra and is principal flute in the Milton Keynes Youth Orchestra. The MC for the evening was Rtn David Aked-Walker, from the Newport Pagnell Rotary Club, Neil Beeton (PR and who rightly observed that whilst there had to be a winner on the night, there were no losers as all of the competitors were outstanding.
James now has the possibility of going through the Rotary District, Regional and National Finals, and we wish him every success.
The Club currently has 22 members, men and women. If youʼd like to find out more about us and want to make a difference having fun and at the same time helping those less fortunate than yourself, come along and meet us. The Rotary Club of Newport Pagnell meets every Wednesday at the Swan Revived Hotel, Newport Pagnell. We are a dining club but having a meal is optional. If a meal is required then this takes place in the restaurant from 6.45 onwards. Non-diners can arrive in time for the start of the meeting at 8.00 pm.
