The Projected Picture Trust in Urgent Need for 3000sq ft of Storage Space
Over a hundred years of Cinema Heritage is in danger of being lost if the Projected Picture Trust (PPT) are unable to find new storage by the end of 2013. The PPT urgently needs to find 3000sq ft of storage space. Since 1994 Bletchley Park has been the headquarters, consisting of exhibition, workshop and storage space and also runs a fifty seat Art Deco cinema. The Bletchley Park Trust have requested the PPT vacate the location they currently use for storage at the park by the end of 2013, due to the preservation project Bletchley Park is currently undergoing. The PPT is looking for around 3000sq ft of storage space for its new premises ideally in the local Milton Keynes area.
North Crawley Bowls Club
The Projected Picture Trust was established in 1978 to locate, preserve, restore and educate the public in the magic of cinema and has one of the largest and most unique collections of Cinema Technology equipment in the world, and certainly has one of the largest collections which is on display to the public. The Projected Picture Trust is a small Trust and is therefore looking for funding and partnership opportunities in the Bedfordshire / Buckinghamshire areas. If any company or organisation has any space which would be available then the Trust would be delighted to hear from them.
Affiliated to Bowls England & Buckinghamshire Bowls Association
The Annual General Meeting for our Bowls Club will be held in North Crawley Village Hall, on Tuesday 12 March 2013 at 8.00pm, when a review of our past years results will be held, as well as appointing our new committee for the forthcoming year
Our 2013 season starts in April and we have another full programme organised for the season. We would like to expand our membership and would welcome new members to our friendly Club especially those from North Crawley Village and the surrounding areas. If you are an inexperienced bowler and would like to improve your skills or you are interested in beginning to play the game for the first time we have a fully qualified coach on hand to help you along the way. Our AGM will be an opportunity to hear more about North Crawley Bowls Club, and to meet our members. So we would welcome anyone who is contemplating taking up bowling, or is already a player, and ask that you join us in our Village Hall on Tuesday, 6th March. If you would like further details, please ring either
The Trust is also interested in further space, to create a Centre of Excellence and education relating to Cinema Technology and Preserving the Magic of Cinema.

Dear Editor
Dear Editor
Elly and Matt do LE-JOG - Lands End to John O’Groats...
As I'm sure you have now realised, you have printed a rather obvious mistake in your editorial this month.
It was not Beecham who closed down many railway stations, but Beeching. Whoops!! Fiona Youlton, Lavendon
I was wondering if you would mind putting this in the next edition of the Phonebox? We are hoping to raise money for Macmillan Nurses.
The idea to do Le Jog came about after my mum was diagnosed with cancer last year (she has since made a full recovery), I wanted to do something to raise money for the amazing Macmillan nurses who supported mum so fantastically throughout her diagnosis and treatment. With my husband Matt we are aiming to raise a whopping £10,000 for Macmillan by cycling the furthest possible distance across Britain – Land’s End to John O’Groats!
[Must have had a bit of a headache when I did that Fiona!!! - Ed]
Whatever happened to our railways?
Richard Beeching, Baron Beeching, commonly known as Dr Beeching, was chairman of British Railways and a physicist and engineer. He became a household name in Britain in the early 1960s for his report “The Reshaping of British Railways”, commonly referred to as “The Beeching Report”, which led to far-reaching changes in the railway network, popularly known as the Beeching Axe. As a result of the report, just over 4,000 route miles were cut on cost and efficiency grounds, leaving Britain with 13,721 miles of railway lines in 1966. A further 2,000 miles were lost by the end of the 1960s.
The effect of the ‘Beeching Axe’ on a small station was the subject of Oh, Doctor Beeching! a television sitcom. A popular Flanagan and Allen song became the theme song which ran:
"Oh! Dr. Beeching, what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none! I'll have to buy a bike, 'cause I can't afford a car.
Oh! Dr. Beeching! What a naughty man you are!"
Based on the railway-related poem.
“Oh! Mr porter, what can I do!
I wanted to go to Birmingham and they took me on to Crewe.
Take me back to London as quickly as you can
Oh Mr Porter what a silly girl I am!”
Flanders and Swann commemorated the loss of the branch lines and small country stations in 1964 in their song “Slow Train”; another song which remembers Beeching is The Beeching Report, a song against the Beeching Axe, recorded by the post-rock group iLiKETRAiNS, look them up on youtube!
We will start our 12 day adventure, organised by Discover Adventure, at Land's End
on the south-westerly tip of
England, pedalling our way
38 Phonebox Magazine
through Cornwall, over
Dartmoor and north along
the Welsh border, skirting
the Lake District into
Scotland, via lochs and the
Highlands to the North
Coast and John O’Groats.
There’ll be no sight-seeing;
no lie-ins – this is all about
the physical challenge! And
knowing our luck, you can
guarantee it will rain all the way!
You can support our challenge by visiting www.justgiving.com/elly-and-matt-do-lejog and you can follow their progress leading up to and during the event on Facebook www.facebook.com/ellyandmattdolejog
