ANNUAL ROTARY PLANT SALE
The Rotary Annual Plant Sale took place recently
in the Olney Market Place and was a great success despite the poor weather and appalling Spring growing conditions.
At times it was feared that the event would have to be called off because of the lack of saleable plants. As always, nature intervened, the weather improved in the two weeks before the sale, and the usual variety and quantity of plants were available for horticultural citizens within the locality. The only real casualties were the 160 Busy Lizzie plug plants which all died. Apparently Busy Lizzies are suffering a disease and some Garden Centres are not selling them at all.
The actual sale went well and there was a steady
flow of customers who, by their generosity enabled
a sum of over £400 to be raised for Rotary approved charities.
Thanks to all the patient growers who contributed their time and skills making the sale worthwhile.

eye2eye Fairtrade Shop opens in Wollaston
eye2eye is an independent fairtrade and organic wholefoods shop, selling ‘eco’ products, fairtrade homewares and gifts.
This lovely shop has been described as an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ lled with beautiful hand made and crafted fairtrade products and great wholefoods. In time, owner Helen Casey-Green hopes to grow a successful specialist shop in Wollaston, identi ed for good quality, hard to nd consumables, including environmentally friendly products that are effective but kind to the environment. She even offers a re ll service on Bio D washing up liquid and laundry liquid, saving you 25 pence on a litre bottle. Many of the brands stocked in Helen’s shop can usually only be found on the internet. Better still, in her organic range, eye2eye is very competitive with the larger supermarkets on a ‘like for like’ basis and often cheaper.
The shop offers excellent organic (fairtrade where possible) foods for vegans and those with special dietary needs. A great selection of organic nuts and dried fruit. Plus a delicious range of organic and vegan fairtrade chocolate, because we all deserve a treat now and again!
Fairtrade products have a key role to play in the development of eye2eye shop. As farmers are the rst in line to be affected by poor land management, good practise has long term bene ts for farmers and their communities in developing countries. The Fairtrade Foundation have identi ed that fairtrade certi cation has a positive effect on the environment; organic principles are encouraged through fairtrade certi cation and fairtrade farmers have found that by growing companion plants, they not only deter pests naturally, they are able to create additional cash crops to supplement their income. Good news all round.
Browse eye2eye shop and discover organic cotton products, strong rope ladders and comfortable hammocks, recycled metal lanterns and gardening tools, colourful ceramic tableware, children’s toys, hand embroidered bags, natural soaps and cosmetics, essential oils and beautiful, unusual women’s clothing and accessories all from reliable suppliers.
