Boulderdash
RUN
Following the mammoth task of taping off 8 miles of tracks around the Weston Underwood
countryside, that meant the competitors would run through ponds, over rocks, through tunnels, over fallen trees and any other obstacles that the organisers could think off, the Boulderdash Charity fun run took place on the longest day of the year, 21st of June.
Almost 450 runners ran over the course this year, choosing to do either 4 or 8 miles. The weather was kind, but the course wasn’t, Mark Booth from Body Limits in Newport Pagnell was a brilliant compare for the evening and encouraged all the runners to the end, and the look on people’s faces as they finished was a mix off elation, bewilderment, fatigue, and “how on earth did I get this muddy?”
The main aim of the evening was to raise money for the Brain Research Trust, a charity based at Queen Square in London, who raise money for research in to the many problems with the brain, including MS, strokes, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and many more.
To make the evening a success it needed 80 volunteers to help register and marshal the course, so thanks to all of you who helped out, everyone’s time and effort was put in free of charge.
Big thanks to all our many sponsors who included RSM, big Cow, Bacchus, Race timings systems, Francis Jackson, Acorn Vets, Sainsbury’s, Dread, co-op, and most amusingly for the longest day of the year we were sponsored by Stagsden Christmas trees (it’s never too early to order!)
All this and many personal donations has meant that we have managed to raise around £12,000, which is a great effort.
Times, and finishing position were the least important part of the evening, just finishing was the triumph, but for the record, the 4mile run was won by William Cooper, And the 8 mile by Thomas Watson.
