Milton Keynes theatre group Tread the Boards will be staging their summer production of Bonaventure by Charlotte Hastings at The Chrysalis Theatre, Willen Park South on Friday 5th of July at 7pm and Saturday 6th of July at 2.30pm and 7pm.
Bonaventure, set in 1947, is a thought-provoking murder-mystery play that also explores deeper themes relating to post-war Britain, a time when murder was a capital crime.
A fearful storm lashes an isolated Norfolk convent. The nuns provide sanctuary to those in peril from rising ood waters – but one stranger harbours a deadly secret. As telephone lines fail and the convent is cut off from the outside world, Sister Mary must do battle both with her own demons and a very real devil within.
“The play, once made into a lm, is not merely a whodunit,” says director Shirley Jones. “It asks us to consider our attitudes to moral dilemmas, the role of authority and whether it is always best to let sleeping dogs lie.”
“I’m delighted that a number of our performers will be treading the boards for the rst time with this production. We take pride in helping adults who are new to drama and stagecraft to get their rst chance to see what they can do with a view to developing their acting skills further.”
