School Report
Lavendon School
The children in Acorn class have settled in very well. All of the children have just started school full time so we are getting to know each other and the school. Our topic this half term is
Marvellous Me, and we are going to be finding out all about our wonderful selves! We have already started learning lots, we have daily phonics and maths activities and we love Wednesdays because we get to do PE twice that day! We are getting very good at getting dressed independently.
Beech and Chestnut class children in Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning about their local area as part of their ‘Home Sweet Home’ theme. They have been learning simple map skills and describing features of the local environment. They went on a walk around the village looking at different buildings and their purpose. They each had a simple map so that they could follow a route. Whilst on the walk they took time to investigate the playground equipment in the local park as a starting point for their learning in Design and Technology. Sycamore class have started their new theme of Camembert and Cheddar, which is a study of France and Britain, with a cheese tasting. The children enjoyed the lesson and had a lively discussion on the exact smell of camembert cheese – smelly socks or the drains! Every child tasted all the cheeses even if some of the cheeses were not to their liking.
This term Maple Class have been learning all about inventions and inventors from the past. They are really looking forward to investigating further on their visit to the Science Museum in November!
Sherington Church of England School
School days are GOLDEN. The week’s work done and a hard time rehearsing for Harvest Festival led to the opportunity for whole school Golden Time. After a lovely home-cooked pumpkin-themed lunch (tomato and pumkin soup, parmesan and pumpkin bread, apple pie and fruit salad) we had an afternoon for free-flow activity choice whereby the different year groups could mix, play together and enjoy different company.
All of that in the warm glow of our impending village production of Thank You God For the Harvest. Many thanks to the supporters, helpers, parents and children (past and present) who made the celebration in St Laud’s Church memorable. CS
