Thank you to the People of Olney
Sick Children’s Trust
Following on from the article in January’s Phonebox magazine, we wanted to give you an update on how we have spent the money from Newport Pagnell and Olney Lions for the Sick Children’s Trust.
With the generous £500 donation, we managed to purchase two guest beds and four washable pillows for the house on Guilford Street, near Great Ormond Street Hospital. These beds will be used when families stay together in the property; they are great as they can be stored away when they are not used. We would like to thank Sharon in the Wellingborough branch of Dreams for assisting us with these purchases.
As a result of the article there have been lots of generous donations both directly for the trust and also for us to purchase items that they required. With this money we purchased seven sets of single duvet covers, pillow cases and bottom sheets and three bath mats for use at the same house in London. Again we would like to thank Amy and Jez, the manager at the Wellingborough branch of Dunelm Mill for their assistance in purchasing these items.
Jean and Claire, William’s mum, took the items and the donations into Guildford Street and Tina, the house manager, is astounded by the generosity of the people from Olney and surrounding villages. Previously, we have delivered more than 20 boxes of household cleaning items, towels and bedding, all of which have been donated by friends, family and people of Olney.
The family of Claire and Justin can only thank you for all your help with supporting the charities that have helped William since he was born in April last year.
Newport Pagnell Brownies Club
On a wet 3rd January 2014, 57 very excited girls and adults gathered in Market Hill, Newport Pagnell, to board a coach to take us to Butlins Skegness for a much anticipated weekend at Starburst 2014.
These included girls from the Third, Fourth, Second and Fifth Newport Pagnell, plus First Castlethorpe and Hanslope and Thirteenth Bletchley.
We arrived and were given our accommodation and the girls excitedly started their unpacking, we popped their security bands on them and then we prepared for the evening’s entertainment of a disco.
The girls returned to the apartments and had hot chocolate before going to bed ready for the fun packed day on Saturday. The activities we were involved in the street dance, shopping, campfire singing, entertainment game show, funfair, circus skills, parachute games, giant games, swimming and craft. There was a celebration disco on the Saturday evening and one of our party had a birthday on the Sunday so got her photo taken with Sam off the X factor who was the evening’s surprise entertainment.
The girls had a great time and we all returned to Newport Pagnell on Sunday 5th January very tried but happy and full of the stories from the weekend.
Here’s to the next event – what a great way to start the Big Brownies Birthday Celebrations.
