School Report
Spring term has started with a focus on all things animal at Stoke Goldington CE First School. The Busy Bees in Early Years Foundation Stage are working around the topic ‘Out of the Egg’, during which they have discovered a hidden egg in the classroom, and as term progresses they will investigate which animal or bird it belongs to, how to care for it and what may hatch out of it!
The Learning Ladybirds in Years 1 & 2 have thrown themselves into their ‘Animal Adventures’ topic by creating information books on their pets, writing stories about animals, designing animal posters and learning about both local farm animals plus food chains and habitats of exotic creatures around the world.
Much of the children’s work will be shared for families to enjoy during a special Sharing Assembly on 10th February, the ideal way for everyone to enjoy the pupils’ animal adventures!
Our topic for the first half of the spring term is “Oh What a Picture!” On the first day back everyone was a Star for the Day as the classroom was transformed into a photographic studio courtesy of Tempest Photography and kindly funded by FOES. All the children brought in dressing up clothes and took turns either posing for photos in costume or photographing each other using the specialist lenses, flash bulbs and screens. They then made portrait reflection pictures and picture frames from natural materials. We have begun looking at the work and styles of famous artists, starting with Renoir’s “The Umbrellas” and our papier-mache umbrellas are already taking shape! We read “Alfie Weather” by Shirley Hughes and are starting to explore the properties of water – how it feels, changes and affects the environment around us. We have been on a “Wellie Wander” and also looked at winter and rainy scenes through a viewfinder, using what we saw as inspiration for writing poems and playing instruments to them.
