Turvey Pre-School
Emberton Sailing Club
The exciting news from Turvey Pre-school is that we now offer out of school clubs! Our Before School and After School Clubs started last term and run every day during term-time. The clubs meet a need for families whose children attend Turvey Lower School and are also open to pre-school children aged 3+.
A number of children attend regularly and some come on an ad hoc basis. For all of them there is a friendly welcome and plenty of choice of activities, whether it’s opportunity for play or chilling out after school. We have quieter, non-messy activities before school. Children have soon settled in and enjoy their time here. They choose what to do and have a say in what activities we have. So far they have enjoyed, making bread and cakes, making and modelling with playdough, painting and drawing, and making dens. Outdoor play (with torches in the dark) is also popular, even the odd water fight! Last term they also enjoyed Halloween and Bonfire Night fun making lanterns, toasting marshmallows and having sparklers, and lots of glitter and sparkle were enjoyed at Christmas. Eating is not forgotten and with healthy eating as our guide, we offer breakfast, a tea-time snack, fruit and drinks. All the children enjoy their food - several have a second breakfast with us - and later they tuck into a tea-time snack.
We are all glad to be back this term and look forward to carrying on with the fun!

Emberton Park Sailing Club has become one of the UK’s first sailing clubs to sign up to a major global event this summer which will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Sailing Event ever held.
On the 21st September this year, sailing clubs from around the world will simultaneously start this unique race at 11.00 am British Summer Time (BST) no matter where in the world they are. Hence participating clubs in Australia will be sailing in the middle of the night! In doing so, this will be the first global mass participation club race of its kind ever staged. Over 230 clubs have now signed up from more than 20 countries with more than 50,000 sailors expected to take part. Entitled ‘Bart’s Bash’, the event will raise funds for The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, named after Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, Britain’s Gold and Silver Olympic medallist and Americas Cup sailor who was tragically killed in a training accident on San Francisco Bay in May 2013. Shortly after this tragic accident, Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE, Andrew’s wife Leah and his sister Amanda, set up The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation to honour Andrew’s life and legacy by encouraging youngsters into sailing.
For this one off event Emberton are hoping to get as many sailing boats on the water as possible and will follow the event with an opportunity for anyone interested in sailing to come and try for themselves. There will be plenty of club members available to help you try our fantastic sport. Anyone looking for more information about this event or to come and try sailing should contact us at info@epsc.org.uk
