Olney Raft and Duck Race
elieve it or not, it's time once again
to dust off those paddles and Blife jackets and start designing your raft! The races will take
place on Sunday 6th July. Last year we had an exciting Duck Race and a fabulous turn out for the Raft Race with over twenty rafts. The Raft Race is a great opportunity to get a team , or should we say
crew together and have a fun day out. You can compete to be the fastest or simply the most stylish. Or maybe you could use the event as a fundraiser and get sponsored. For further information go to our website , www. theolneygroup.org , and in addition there are photos and video clips from previous years. Also, on the 16th April, at 8pm, The Olney Group (TOG) are having their AGM and open meeting in the back room of The Swan Inn and Bistro. Everyone is welcome , so come along and see what TOG is up to. We'd like to invite anyone who is interested in the Olney community to come and have an informal chat, drink and snack. TOG organise or assist with three major events in Olney each year. First is the Raft Race, which has become a traditional part of town life and has now been running for more than three decades . Second is our fabulous Firework Display which is growing in reputation and has a real family friendly atmosphere . Ending the year , we support Dickens of a Christmas by providing Santa's Grotto.
If you want to try and put something back into you local community then being a TOG supporter can do just that. So, come along and meet our team. Don't forget, your town needs you!
at each event means that winning the award would allow a lot more people to hear about it...so fingers crossed!
Already Ian's music has been heard and loved across the world , with his last EP selling around 6 ,000 downloads and receiving radio time in not only the UK but also in Ireland, France, Portugal, Canada and the USA. It looks like he will end up going a long way with this new EP, both literally and musically. 'I used to listen to the radio all the time as a child', he explains, 'I'd be sat with my ear against it dreaming about having my music played ... and now it is!' The hardest part, he says, is getting the music heard by people, who all too often only find out about the things promoted by big companies . Possibilities in the pipeline may well see music from Ian Roberts on our televisions screens, and alongside playing in France later this year and a possible tour in Ireland, world domination is just a gig away!

Getting Involved
emergency planning team when they need you. You would be involved in running recreation centres , which provide a base for emergency personnel and also a refuge for evacuees . The emergency planning needs volunteers to work closely with the emergency service providers and also supporting those organisations , which also rely on volunteer support. Community coordinators are also needed to help ensure that your local community knows what to do in the event of an emergency, enabling them to respond quickly . Something everyone can do is to make sure you 're ready at home , think about what you and your household would do if there was an emergency , and make sure you know what you would do in a variety of emergency situations.
