Joe Osborne oe Osborne starts his 2014 season with success Jbefore he has even turned a wheel. The 24-year-old has been selected to join the prestigious Superstar scheme by the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC). Osborne, from Olney, has spent the past two seasons in the top GT3 class of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, making a name for himself with pace that has troubled works drivers from Aston Martin, Porsche and Chevrolet. Through a long-standing support of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, the BRDC has become more involved in the development of British motorsport talent. The BRDC Superstars scheme works with drivers away from the track, building the 'other' skills required to further their careers in the sport including guidance on physical and mental training , media training , marketing , sponsorship advice , and more. "Becoming a BRDC Superstar is a great achievement for any British racing driver, and a definite highlight of my career to date," remarked Osborne. " It shows that hard work , dedication to your sport and commitment can sometimes be enough to overcome a lack of funding . And, I'm confident that the recognition this programme provides will serve me well in years to come too. "I'm really looking forward to working with Tim (Harvey) again. In 2012 when we were British GT team mates, Tim became one of the best mentors I've had the pleasure of working with. I hope to repay his faith and that of the BRDC by ensuring the Superstars logo makes plenty of podium appearances in the 2014 season." Osborne's race season begins with testing duties for the Triple Eight Race Engineering squad in March, ahead of his first race of the 2014 season at Italy's Monza circuit (12-13/04), where he will compete in the Blancpain Endurance Series for MP-AMR in a V12-powered Aston Martin Vantage GT3. One Hundred Years Young ~obil D SERVICECElffl!E 80 Phonebox Magazine spley Sands Golf Club are getting into the swing of their centenary year. 2014 sees Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands Gold Club celebrating 100 years , and so a programme of events and fundraising competitions throughout 2014 has been launched, as well as the announcement of two charity beneficiaries for the special year. One of the charity beneficiaries will be Wooden Spoon , the children's charity which exists in order to make a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged children and young people , providing funding for respite and medical treatment centres , sensory enhancement therapeutic facilities , specialist playgrounds and sports activity areas . They make sure that all local donations fund projects in the local community , enabling individuals to be able to actively see where their money is being spent. The club will also be continuing to support Willen Hospice , which has been supported by the club for a number of years now, with over £120,000 going to the hospice over the last 10 years. The events begin with the club captain, Fred Mercer, opening a beautiful new dry stone wall bridge and water feature at the 16th hole in May, followed closely by a Centenary Ball in June at Horwood House, Little Horwood. There will also be a two week - long golf festival starting on the 22nd June, including a variety of competitions and culminating in the Captain's Centenary Charity Day on the 5th July. The 23rd July will see a charity competition take place to raise money for the chosen two charities , and will include a very special exhibition by the current world golf trick shot champion , Geoff Swain, an auction of golf, rugby and a variety of Guise and Woburn Aspley Gui
