Good eating in Hanslope
Hanslope’s third pub The Globe Inn is just a few yards along Long Street, and
enjoys a splendid reputation for its restaurant. Surprisingly, I have often passed it without going in, but I’ve been missing something very good indeed.
Now, I recently found myself there in good time for Sunday lunch. Sunday lunch is key eating for me and this proved a good call. Arriving was easy because there is generous space in the car park, which is
Geoff Bacchus
alongside a charming and well sheltered garden.
I went in with a healthy appetite and it was excellent. The restaurant tables seat more than 30 people, and the waiting is attentive and unobtrusive. The drinkers can enjoy a good spacious bar with happy banter. Each pub in Hanslope boasts a pool table, but they only have one opportunity to make a first impression and this was faultless. I’ve promised myself that I will go again, especially if I’m feeling peckish.
was in The Young Ones, The Comic Strip, Bottom, he was the voice of the Andrex puppy in the adverts, Alan B’Stard and in any number of films, not least ‘Drop Dead Fred’ where he played the imaginary friend which every child should watch. You don’t keep working like that unless you’re good, so we say a fond goodbye to the old anarchist himself who brought such fun into everyone’s lives, save those without a sense of humour. He annoyed them, which he’d have liked.
I didn’t mention his startling cameo roles in Blackadder as Lord Flasheart as I’m going to do an unashamed plug for our drama school and the future of British theatre and comedy! We are looking for the next up and coming comedy actors. If you can do comedy on stage, you can do anything.
The background is that the MK Theatre of Comedy are producing Blackadder in September and our drama students get 2 free tickets to see the show as well as a look around the set, meet the actors and the technical crew.
We’re taking this one step further and doing a special version of one of the episodes to be performed by our 13 – 17 year olds on the afternoon of the 20th September on the stage with the set being used for the main production. Family and friends can come along and see them perform it at the Chrysalis.
We are looking for new ‘older’ members of our drama school, ages 13 – 17 and to that end we are having an open hour for all new members between those ages to come
along, on the Tuesday the 8th July at the Olney Centre, at 6 PM, where we meet, to mingle with our current students of that age to see if they want to join us and be part of the Blackadder for our youngsters. If you are interested please email Anna at annamktoc@yahoo.co.uk
Who knows, you could be the next Lord Flasheart, Blackadder, Baldrick, or Queenie! See you soon! David Pibworth
MKTOC’s Drama School runs in Olney on Tuesday’s at the Olney Centre from 16.00 – 19.00 hrs (split into two age groups) during term time. This is for ages 8 – 17 and there is currently availability for some older children. See article above! Please email Anna on annamktoc@yahoo.co.uk or phone 01234 241357 for details.
