                                 Newport Pagnell Councillor's Corner
Councillor Paul Alexander
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me the elections on May 22nd. Along with my colleagues, Councillors Douglas McCall and Derek Eastman, we are pleased to represent Newport Pagnell South ward on the Milton Keynes Council.
----- Medical Centre gets a ce lift ---
Newport Pagnell Medical Centre on Queen's Avenue, Newport Pagnell, has had a new lease of life. The current centre, built on the old Cooper's Yard site and opened in July 1 995, is having a face lift and the outside of the building is being updated and painted blue.
This is to make the building more appealing.
------ Major water leak is xed --- -
On the corner of St. Margaret's Close and Tickford Street Newport Pagnell, there have been major traffic problems for over two months. Many constituents have complained about the inconvenience that they had to endure. At one stage the cars were controlled by traffic lights, which created more hold ups.
The Lib De Focus Team made contact with Anglian Water and the situation was rectified on July 9th.
A spokesman from Anglian Water explained that the problem was because of a cracked cast iron pipe. This was rectified by replacing the faulty section with a more suitable material.
The centre is a great asset to Newport Pagnell in that it provides medical facilities to a large number of patients from Newport Pagnell and the local areas. There are in the order of 12 doctors along with Physiotherapy and a Travel Clinic. There are also facilities for visiting specialists to see patients needing treatment for example in Podiatry, Gynaecology and Diabetes.

Gif rd Park Pond
Some work has been done to remove the weeds and vegetation around the pond off Broadway Avenue, Giffard Park, but a lot more work is needed.
The Lib De Focus Team are continually striving to get more of this grass and weed removed in order to encourage the ducks and swans to populate. We will keep the residents informed of the progress as it occurs.

---- Car val not dampened by rain----
This year's Newport Pagnell Carnival took place on Saturday, July 5th. It was raining during the procession, which made it uncomfortable for those walking and on the floats. However, the spirits of the participants
and those people who lined the route were high.
The carnival followed the traditional route which started from Blakelands and proceeded along through the High Street. It passed Aston Martin's showrooms and went along Severn Drive to finish in Riverside Meadow.
There was a large number of people in the meadow in the afternoon and, thankfully, the weather improved.
