Charity garden party was overwhelming success
Three years ago I lost my much-loved father to cancer. After a brave and painful battle he passed away in
Willen Hospice surrounded by his family. The hospice provided my father with the most phenomenal support, care and love, helping him with his pain and providing relative comfort when it seemed impossible.
For our family, Willen became like a second home, providing us with unparalleled support. Pop’s grandchildren – Charlotte, Max and Martha – were always welcomed with warmth and fun that made it an enjoyable and wonderful experience, despite the inevitable.
Prostate Cancer seemed to be the devil amongst men that is in desperate need of awareness. And so, when discussing our garden party, we chose this as our additional charity. Two worthy causes that touch the hearts of all of us sometimes in our lives.
Just after my father passed away, my mother and her friends hosted a charity garden party in Newton Blossomville to raise money for Willen and Breast Cancer.
They successfully ran this for three consecutive years until this year, when the baton was passed over to me. I enrolled the support of my mother (she wasn’t getting off that lightly!) and was truly honoured when my dear friends offered their support and came on board to organise this year’s party.
With the continued help of my mother’s friends, we hosted this worthy event in Weston Underwood on Friday 8th August. It was a wonderful day and the weather was extremely kind. It enabled us to have a successful, old-fashioned garden party.
Our guests were invited to come along with their children, drink tea, eat cake and relax, whilst The Great Gappo entertained the youngsters.
