COMPETITION: Calling budding writers and authors
One hot day in August, Halloween became a topic of discussion in the Phonebox office. There’s gruesome pumpkins, apple bobbing and terrifying costumes, but millions will be settling down on the famous holiday to
hear a good old-fashioned ghost story. Whether it’s set in a haunted house or a deserted moor, a true horror can come in any guise. And that’s where you, our readers, come in. We know there are a couple of weeks until the annual holiday, but we’d love to read your best spine-tingling Halloween story.
You’ve got up to 500 words to play with, and until September 17 to give us a chance to read them. The winner’s work will be published in the October edition of Phonebox magazine. There are three different age categories:
Up to 12 years old 13-19 year olds
20 years old and over
You can write about anything you want (as long as it’s scary). Just make sure you get it to us with your name, address and daytime contact number.
Living in a haunted house? Let us know
Know any good tales about Olney and Newport Pagnell, or any of the villages we cover? Is there a lost ghost still wandering the halls or spooky noises in the dark? We’d love to hear from you. Just let us know about your ghost stories from the area by getting in touch.
