the longer it takes to be broken down into glucose, and the less insulin your body releases, thus helping blood sugar levels remain steadier and energy, mood and mental abilities more stable. You’ll be less likely to crave foods that perpetuate this cycle too. If you eat protein (things like meat, fish, eggs, cheese, nuts and seeds) and fat (e.g. oily fish, avocado, butter from grass fed cattle, coconut and olive oils) at the same time glucose release is even slower. So when you’re thinking of what to eat try something with fibre (e.g. whole grain pasta, bread, rice, or non-starchy vegetables), and mix with some protein and fat – how about a slice of wholegrain toast (fibre) spread with a little real butter (fat) and a poached egg (protein)? Compare how you feel an hour later with when you’ve had a slice of white toast with jam. Or if you want something really simple, try an apple (fibre) and a handful of non-salted nuts (protein and fat). This formula can work magic for you, and it doesn’t have to be time consuming or boring. Yes information on food is confusing, but there are simple steps you can take to help you reduce what is stopping you feeling
