Is the NHS safe?
Dear Editor
At last someone, namely Vince Cable at the Liberal Democrat’s recent conference, exposed the Conservative Party’s true agenda, which is to destroy public services in the name of austerity cuts. Nowhere could this be more true than in the National Health Service where whole sections of it are being privatised. My experience of the National Health Service locally has been amazing. My two children were born in Milton Keynes hospital. Members of my family have had operations there. The service we have received there has been first class.
I am deeply worried that my children will not receive the same level of service in the future. NHS staff are striking currently over pay for the first time since 1982. They do valued jobs and should be rewarded adequately. Austerity measures and privatisation will erode our highly esteemed NHS. I urge anyone who cares about the health of their family to think really deeply before they vote at the next election. A vote for the Conservative party will be another nail in the coffin of the NHS and other public services.

Do you know anyone from Denton?
Dear Editor
John Brownridge of Denton has been working for several years to produce two history websites.
One is comprised of old photographs of Denton village and its inhabitants, and the other is full of facts, figures and stories relating to the village.
There has been a lot of interest in the sites and there will now be a history afternoon at Denton Village Hall on Sunday 23rd November from 2-4.30pm. There will be archives, maps, family history, artefacts and oodles of photographs. We are also hoping the Finds Liason officer will be with us.
So much history is being lost in this age of social media, so personal contact to gain additional information for our sites would be fantastic.
If there are descendants from Denton out there reading this, please come and help us with our research. Pass the word on if you know anyone with connections to the village. The afternoon will be very informal with tea and coffee available. We are very keen to attract as many “old Dentonians’ as possible. Any queries go to Gill Parris (nee Warren) on (01604) 890616. Many thanks,
Gill Parris
