The Club at Hanslope
Beer Festival
Geoff Bacchus
We are a dual gender dining club but having a meal is optional. If a meal is required, then this takes place in the restaurant from 6.45pm. Non diners can arrive in time for the start of the meeting at 8pm. Why not come along and see what we have to offer?

Not content with the three fine pubs we’ve already reviewed, Hanslope’s thirsty folk also have an impressive club. There is an adults-only bar and a vast family lounge. Everything about the club is on a grand scale. When watching the
Commonwealth games cycling event on the huge screen, I could almost feel the rain as it challenged the riders. The largest thing of all is the welcome the club offer visitors.
The club are holding a beer festival from November 7-9th. This is always popular and their prices are also very acceptable. I’ve previously said that a job which requires me to go from pub to pub is a happy task, and I certainly look forward to the festival. GB
Annual General Meeting
October was the month for Newport Pagnell WI’s annual general meeting.
Following the minutes of the
previous AGM, and the adoption of the financial statement, the members heard a report of the previous year’s activities. After the presentation of the Competition Cup to Marion Stapleton, the President gave a short address and hoped everyone would enjoy the programme for the forthcoming twelve months. The official business concluded, the main speaker took the floor.
Ann Lark represented Age UK MK. She explained that two well-known charities – Age Concern and Help the Aged – had
merged around four years ago and were now known as Age UK. The countrywide organisation provides support for older people and delivers various services.
As part of this national charity, Age UK MK has access to lots of booklets covering many different subjects as people need various kinds of assistance. Nowadays, there are more single people and those with no family nearby, and a growing number of people in Milton Keynes are aged over 65.
Age UK MK can help with anything from form filling to housing problems, from DIY to gardening. They also have several local shops and furniture stores.
This was a very enlightening talk and several
people took the opportunity to talk to Ann afterwards.
The raffle winners this month were Jyoti Ghandi-Wilkinson and Gill Senior.
The competition was won by June Weston, with Jyoti Ghandi-Wilkinson second and Marion Stapleton third.
Newport Pagnell Women’s Institute meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Royal British Legion Club, and is always delighted to welcome new members. In November, the subject is the story of an English Concertina. For more information, please call Evelyn Mison on (01908) 615630 or simply turn up on the night.
