Emberton School
We have been very busy enjoying our “This is Me!” theme by creating collages and paintings of ourselves and looking at the similarities and differences between us and people from the African country of Ghana.
We harvested and made soup with onions, marrows, garlic and potatoes from our own community allotment – what foods would the African harvest produce? We did shadow dancing and mirror dancing – what kind of dancing do the children of Africa do?
We are learning about the rich diversity of cultures that we have in our own country too and were delighted to make friends and share learning during our visit to Germander Park School. We have also been allowing some time to focus on ourselves by making wire sculptures that show our body movements, along with emotion masks and senses poems.
We collected data on our food preferences and used the computers to generate the results in graph form. Then we learned about the importance of exercise and eating the right amounts from the different food groups in order to keep healthy. We have also been creating our personal profiles on our learning platform DB Primary and have been learning to write and send emails to each other.
In Literacy we have been sharing our personal preferences and writing stories inspired by Lauren Child’s “I want a Pet!” In Forest Schools we have been thinking about seasonal changes and making our very own places to hibernate, whilst continuing our focus on team work and looking after each other as we practise tree climbing and make pictures with natural resources.

Olney Infant Academy
Celebrating Autumn with poems, songs and donations
It’s been another busy month at Olney Infant Academy, and in September the children managed to raise an incredible £304.49 on the Jeans for Genes day. The pupils and staff
were allowed to wear denim in return for a donation to Genetic Disorders UK which aims to change the world for children with genetic disorders.
A much treasured event in the OIA calendar, the children visited St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Olney for their annual Harvest Festival on October 8th. With family and friends packed into the church to support them, the children sang some special songs and read out their own Autumnal poems. As well as tinned and packet food donations for the MK Food Bank, the children were proud to donate some fresh fruit and vegetables, grown in their own allotments at school.
A first for some children, school photos took place on October 10th, with the chance for some (soon to be treasured) family portraits with younger and older siblings.
To celebrate Healthy Living Week, all of the children took part in special Healthy Living and Fitness workshops on the 23rd and 24th October. Everyone enjoyed the loud and active days.
