Olney Town Football Club
W On The Field
e are two months into the season now and Olney Town FC is in great shape.
The 1st Team are currently sitting on the back of seven consecutive wins in both league and cup
competitions. The highlights include a 4-2 win at Premier UCL side Wellingborough Town (having been 2-0 down after eight minutes!) and then knocking last year’s Berks & Bucks FA Cup winners Hale Leys Utd, out of the competition. Once again, they were 2-0 down after 20 minutes but running out 4-2 winners. In the league, we sit only three points off a top six place with games in hand.
The Reserves have lost only once this season and currently sit in 2nd place in the UCL Reserve Division while progressing in both the Berks & Bucks Cup and UCL Knock-Out Cup. There has been great work by manager David Ashcroft and his coaching staff Stacey O’Neill and David Morgan.
Our on-field development over the past two years is mainly down to Manager Ed Wheatley and his Assistant Ken Speed, but it was with much sadness that we lost Ed in October – promotion at work and managing a high flying football club sadly does not mix well. Olney Town would like to thank Ed and Ken for their hard work in assembling probably one of the best squads in 25 years!
However, football goes on and it is with great pride that Olney Town can announce the appointment of Steve Kuhne – a real winner in every sense of the word!
Having started his career as a player at Tottenham Hotspur, playing with the likes of John Moncur and Vinny Samways, Steve has gone on to play at all levels of the football ladder, scoring goals for fun. He has also held high profile management roles at St Neots during their rapid rise up the league ladder.
We wish Steve and his team the best of luck as Olney Town continues to rise up the non league structure.

Emberton Park Sailing Club
Breaking world records with international sailing event
Emberton Park Sailing Club (EPSC) has sailed into the record books by taking part in the largest global sailing event ever held, setting a new Guinness World
Record for the Largest Sailing Race across 24 hours.
On Sunday 21st September, EPSC was one of more than 768 sailing clubs from around the world that took part in a unique charity race. It saw thousands of boats and more than 18,000 participants in over 68 countries compete across a measured distance. Everyones’ times were recorded and combined.
30 boats took to the water at EPSC to race for just more than an hour, with children, families and solo sailors alike enjoying excellent sailing conditions. Entitled ‘Bart’s Bash’, our event has raised more 88 Phonebox Magazine
than £480 so far for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, named after Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, Britain’s Gold and Silver Olympic medallist and Americas Cup sailor who was tragically killed in a training accident on San Francisco Bay in May 2013. Shortly after this tragic accident, Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE, Andrew’s wife Leah and his sister Amanda, set up The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation to honour Andrew’s life and legacy by encouraging youngsters into sailing. Commodore for EPSC, Luke Fisher, commented: “EPSC were one of the first sailing clubs in the UK to sign up for this unique, record-breaking event and it’s been great to see so many, young and old alike, on the water enjoying themselves with us, remembering Bart and raising money for this worthy cause.”
