Newport Pagnell Councillor Corner
Cllr. Derek Eastman
As Christmas draws near I can say, since the summer, this been an eventful year for me. On September 10th it was a privilege and an honour to be elected Mayor of Milton Keynes. I have now met so many wonderful people and seen the hard work of many local voluntary organisations
in MK, many of which operate on very low income, providing essential facilities for local communities.
Remembrance Sunday
The 9th of November was Remembrance Sunday and saw many parades and church services across Milton Keynes. As usual Newport Pagnell saw many hundreds of local residents line the streets for this year’s parade and gathered around the war memorial to hear the names of the fallen and take part in the two minutes silence. The parade was followed by a moving service of remembrance in St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church.
Winter Salt
As winter approaches MK Council is preparing to keep MK’s roads clear of ice and snow. Not an easy task but early preparation will ease the likelihood of any problems. A salt barn is located at Bleak Hall to store sufficient salt for MK. The photo shows the salt barn with 2500 tonnes of salt. When the barn is full to capacity it holds 3500 tonnes and with 1000 tonnes expected soon the barn will be up to its total capacity for the winter.
New Gym at Middleton Pool
Recently planning permission was granted for a gym to be developed at Middleton Pool. This will naturally replace the gym currently located in the Tickford Community Centre. Progress with building the new Gym extension is well underway and it is expected to be completed soon. This extension for the gym is to be around 400 square metres (20m x 20m) and will be positioned between the existing pool and London Road, Newport Pagnell. It will of course be a fully functional gym with an extensive range of equipment and naturally have its own changing room and showers.
The photo shows them digging the footings, which are extremely deep to allow for the variation in the ground level.
Woad Corner Shell Garage Development
Great news. MK Council has now granted planning permission for a great new development at Woad Corner. Permission was granted 7 votes for and 1 against.
Woad Corner will be a working Vintage Shell Petrol Filling Station. Designed to reflect a 1960s petrol station it will be a showpiece for the Shell Heritage Collection based at Woad Corner, Newport Pagnell. Just to confirm, the picture is an artist’s impression!!!
