Charity Champion Hits Target
Charity Champion Lloyd Moulder, Co- Founder of designer bathroom supplier BathWorks, based in Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes and Woodford Green in Essex has achieved his target to raise £10,000 for Haven House Children’s Hospice at the same time as celebrating the company’s 10 years in business.
“Last September the Hospice was celebrating 10 years of caring so it was a very good match,” said Lloyd. “It’s taken a year and in that time I have enjoyed taking on various fundraising challenges and people have been generous.”
Haven House said thanks to Lloyd with an invitation to visit the Hospice to mark his support for the charity’s Pay for a Day scheme. He signed the Book of Days, received a special framed certificate and met mascot Henry the Hound.
Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of the hospice, said: “Lloyd’s personal fundraising efforts for Haven House have been tremendous – £10,000 from one individual is an amazing sum and will do so much to help our work with local life-limited children and families. A big thank you to BathWorks for this huge commitment to the hospice.”
A Sporting Gift
The Olney-Newton Link would like to say a big THANK YOU to Olney Football Club for the generous donation of football kit for the youngsters in Sierra Leone. This is in response to a plea for sports kit from Brima James Kabia who is well known to many people here and who is presently working for Save The Children. There are many teenagers unable to attend school due to the ebola crisis and therefore at a loose end who will love to don the kit and pretend
In Brief
they are ManU or Chelsea. It will be much appreciated.
Olney artist exhibiting in two galleries
Ed Robinson from Olney has just delivered work to The Market Place Gallery in Olney and Arthouse Gallery in London. The latter follows an introduction from Creative Coverage, which makes gallery introductions for professional artists.
“The run up to Christmas is always a busy time of year for me,” says Ed. “It’s encouraging that demand for my work is so high.”
He adds: “My favourite painting is the one of Olney market. It was a late winter’s afternoon with the market stall lights beaming over the array of fruits and vegetables creating a backdrop for the silhouetted figures bustling around the market. Also the graphic shapes of the packaging and labels add drama to the scene. It is a beautiful painting produced in my mixed-media style of acrylic washes over a base of newsprint and bits of packaging picked up from the market to give it a personal touch.”

Sycamore Tree Warning
As autumn comes to the British Isles, bringing with it some wet and windy weather, it seems our horses are once again facing huge danger from outbreaks of Atypical Myopathy. Caused by a toxin (Hypoglycin A) found in sycamore seeds; the condition has an estimated mortality rate of 75-90%. Please, please check your fields for sycamore seeds – they can travel huge distances on the wind, so don’t rely on the field being clear simply because there are not any sycamore trees around the boundary. If you find any, move your horses urgently before doing anything to try and clear the seeds.
Symptoms of AM include sudden stiffness, muscle tremors, collapse, colic-like signs, low temperature, increased heart rate and dark urine. The BHS has put together an information leaflet, which can be found at bhs.org.uk.
Please do familiarise yourself with the symptoms as early action may prevent a fatality.
