Homemade wreaths
Homemade wreaths are another way of upcycling, use an old metal hanger bent into a circle and weave various bits of greenery from around the garden, adding a bit of holly and some red berries for that Christmas touch. Alternatively, you can make wreaths out of pretty much anything, and fabric wreaths are one type which are becoming increasingly popular. Made by tying old scraps of material onto one another, it may be time consuming but at least it will last for years to come. Use a selection of Christmassy coloured fabrics and finish it off with a bow to give it that festive feel.
Classic Decoration
A classic form of upcycling is reusing old Christmas cards as gift tags for presents. Toilet roll tubes are also useful, and can be made into great ‘Christmas trees’ by stacking them up into a
triangle shape and covering them in green. This could be used just for decoration or as a form of advent calendar, putting small gifts of chocolates into each tube for each day of advent. A smaller- scale decorative tree like this can be made by using bottle corks, and either kept as they are or painted green to make them a bit more tree-like.
