Celebrate 100 Years
Newport Muster
M
uster Ted is getting really excited about the Muster. He has been sampling all the
walks but won’t say which is his favourite.
He has been spotted doing some quality control on the Cream Teas so it could be the Gentle Walk.
Or it could be the Family Walk around Bury Field. Or the Town Walk, this year with a transport theme.
Or maybe it is the Country or Hearty Walk.
On 6th July members of the Lavendon branch of the WI met together in the Secretary’s garden for a Garden Party to celebrate 100 years of the NFWI (National Federation of
Women’s Institutes). Members were encouraged to don posh frocks and hats for the occasion.
The committee had arranged a spread of delicious sandwiches and other savouries followed by a slice of Victoria sponge cake (what else?) with strawberries and fresh cream. The President, Sam Boon, proposed a toast to the NFWI with sparkling wine.
There was a free tombola, a Guess the Weight of the Cake, How many Dolly Mixtures in the Jar and The contents of the washing line of Socks competitions along with the chance to identify the committee from childhood photos.
The weather was kind and a very jolly evening was enjoyed by all.
The group meet on the first Monday of the month at Lavendon Village Hall at 7.45 p.m.
Visitors are very welcome.
