– 19th September at the Chrysalis Theatre, MK. See advert in this edition of the Phonebox.
There’s a lot of similarities between the Labour Leadership election and Fawlty Towers. Both are full of people being horrible to each other and both are farces with loonies rushing about, not telling the truth, and getting into odd situations with normal folks looking on aghast.
The difference is of course, that we know what we’re doing and a huge team work together to ensure a success. Our stupidity is carefully planned whereas they make it up as they go along. And by golly it shows.
Our farce comes to an end on the 19th September when the curtain will fall for the very last time on our final trip to the fabled Fawlty Towers, whereas Labour could have a 5 year run, extended to a 10 year tour if they aren’t very careful. And their actors aren’t half as good as ours either.
As Gordon Brown would say to Jeremy Corbyn – “Break A Leg”.
Volunteers Required
T
with dementia or has symptoms of cognitive impairment; still living in their own homes with only intermittent support. Meeting on the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month from 2pm – 4.30pm we aim to offer memory assistance techniques and group activities to build confidence and, with refreshments, provide a happy and enjoyable afternoon.
Both clubs have substantial numbers of men attending, not just ladies; so we’d love to see some men applying for volunteer roles too! The recruitment process involves reference and DBS clearance, and appropriate training is provided e.g. safeguarding, understanding of dementia, health and safety. Applicants for the Monday Club at Brooklands would be channelled to the appropriate Trustee but, in the first instance, all interested readers are asked to contact Hazel Reynolds who co- ordinates the Memory club. Email: hazel_ reynolds@hotmail.co.uk stating whether you are interested in volunteering on either Monday or Thursday.
For information regarding any of the groups at The Brooklands Centre please contact the Centre Manager Catherine Hall 01908 614749 or email: brooklands.centre@btinternet.com.
he Brooklands Centre in Newport Pagnell is a charity for the benefit of those in the local community aged
55+. In addition to all its own clubs and classes, it is host venue for others e.g. the Memory club.
The Brooklands Centre seeks volunteers to support plans to extend the reach of the social and lunch club which meets every Monday from 9.45am – 3.15pm. Our aim is for members to enjoy a good meal, and to provide an occasion for social interaction, so valuable to those living alone or coping with deterioration in health. Volunteers support members to help them gain maximum benefit from their day, help run the activities, assist with refreshments etc. Volunteers with specific interest in cooking would also be most welcome.
The Memory club is hoping to attract a group of additional volunteers, to support our growth. Our client base has grown steadily since our formation eight months ago. Our target audience is anyone who has been diagnosed
