Northampton High School Welcomes New Headmistress
We are delighted to welcome our new Headmistress, Dr Helen Stringer, to Northampton High School.
Dr Stringer joins us from the Stephen Perse Foundation in Cambridge where she has taught since 2007, having been Vice-Principal (Curriculum) since 2010.
Dr Stringer graduated in History from the University of Bristol 1984 before completing her Masters and Doctorate at the University of Sussex and teacher training at the Institute of Education in London. She has over 20 years of teaching experience at schools including Channing School, Highgate, James Allen’s Girls’ School, Dulwich and Leicester Grammar School.
Dr Stringer is passionate about breaking down barriers to success for girls and young
women. She is looking forward to working alongside governors, staff and parents to ensure that “every student leaves school equipped to take her first independent steps towards fulfilling her ambitions, meeting life’s challenges and making her contribution to an ever-changing world.”
At Northampton High an ambitious teaching and learning ethos is complemented by superb pastoral care and strong school- family partnerships which build confidence, positive attitude and zest for learning and life. Dr Stringer believes that these qualities are vital ingredients for success and happiness in a world full of opportunities, pressures and uncertainties.

A level success
have led to many successful admissions to the most competitive universities and courses, including Agriculture, Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Mathematics and Economics.
At AS, top results were again achieved with forty-two of the pupils gaining at least one A grade. Over a third of all results in Art, Chemistry, Economics, Latin, Maths and Politics were at Grade A. The Extended Project Qualification is an increasing strength of the School with seven of the eleven entrants gaining an A or A* in the Lower Sixth. We wish all of our pupils future success whether, as in the vast majority of cases, this is in Higher Education or to those who are off directly to new ventures in the workplace.

Wellingborough School
Wellingborough School has again enjoyed a good year of A level and AS results. We continue to be really
proud of our pupils, some of whom have built on modest GCSE and AS results to perform very well in the exams for which the results are published today (August 13). Whilst attention in the media often focuses on those achieving the highest grades many of our pupils have achieved, through hard work and support, results which are well above what may have been expected in view of their prior performance. They deserve our congratulations.
Our strength across the breadth of subjects offered at Wellingborough is indicated by over
a quarter of our pupils taking Art, Business Studies, Economics and History gaining an A* at A Level. Thirty Eight of our eighty pupils gained at least one A* and we have maintained our A* grade performance at over 17 per cent of all grades. The results overall
