Jeremy Corbyn
Dear Sir, I was disappointed to read David Pibworth’s piece on Jeremy Corbyn – ‘What A Farce!’ It gave us nothing original, insightful, or even funny.
Surely the really interesting story is how a modest socialist, anti-austerity figure, starting from last place but offering a real alternative of a better and fairer future, can generate such enthusiasm and regeneration of interest in politics in such a short span of time? Literally hundreds of thousands of people have become engaged with Jeremy’s vision and plain speaking, and joined the party. This phenomenon has taken everyone by surprise and shows us that politics isn’t static, so who’s to say that the same honest approach won’t work in 2020? Locally more than a thousand people have joined Milton Keynes Labour Party, and the Olney branch has loads more new members.
David Pibworth is capable of writing better than this cynical trite, or as Charlie Chaplin once said: “You’ll never find a rainbow if you’re looking down.”
With the entire establishment media against him, if Jeremy Corbyn does win it will be a remarkable victory of honesty over spin!
Best regards, David Trend, Olney Labour supporter
Museum Thanks
Dear Paul et al, I am writing, rather belatedly I fear, to thank most sincerely all of those who either arranged or attended the tea party held on Sunday 30th August to celebrate my 25 years as a volunteer at the Cowper and Newton Museum. I know that the dates must be about right since I retired from the Foreign Office early in 1990 and came to the Museum soon afterwards. The party was not only a great success but also a complete and utter surprise (even Ann kept quiet about it), and it was a joyous and wonderful event. The drinks and the catering were delicious (particularly the wondrous cake!) and the company, too, was wonderfully congenial. Everyone seemed to find a few minutes to come and have a brief chat with me, and I had not seen some of them for ages. Once again - very many thanks, and here’s to the next 25 years!
With my very best wishes to all concerned, Michael
Open House Weekend
A very big thank you to all those who contributed to my ‘Open House Weekend’ on August Bank Holiday. Those who donated Bric-A-Brac etc, arrived on the day and those helping with teas.
We managed to make a grand total of £450 for ‘Animals in Need’. This being a tiny fraction of the money they need to keep all the animals they have in their care.
If anyone is considering homing an animal, please adopt one from the animal shelters as there are so many needing homes and it will be rewarding for you as well as the animal.
