Stoke Goldington
Cowper and Newton Museum
much-needed flood defence work being carried out, which has now been completed. Earlier this year the Parish Council decided to enter again, aiming to use the process as a focus for improving the village. The War Memorial was repaired and is now maintained on a continuous basis, the bus shelter was painted, general tidying and maintenance was undertaken and regular grass mowing, hedge maintenance and litter control was continued in conjunction with MK Council and local contractors.
The competition judges scored the village particularly highly on the appearance of the churchyard, playing field, village hall and War Memorial and many other categories were given high marks. The judges concluding remarks were that they “...enjoyed their visit to Stoke Goldington which was litter free and had a community feel about it.”
Parish Council Chairman Roger Trett said: “Everyone was really surprised when we received the email notifying us that we had won. When we looked at the score card we had scored very highly in most areas, so the aim now is to focus on the areas where we did not score quite so strongly so we can make Stoke Goldington the best it can be for residents and visitors.”
