Three Spoooooky Recipes for Halloween
Marshmallow Ghosts
These are the easiest Halloween treats ever, but they’re so effective! All you need is a packet of giant white marshmallows, some chocolate chips and a small bowl of icing. Mix together 2 tablespoons of warm water and 200g icing powder to create a gloopy glue, pop some of it onto the backs of your chocolate chips, then simply stick them onto the marshmallows to create eyes and a mouth.
They’re even spookier if you pop each ghost onto a cocktail stick or straw!
Bat Biscuits
Preheat your oven to 190C and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Beat 100g butter, 100g caster sugar, one egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a bowl. Stir in 275g plain flour and, once it becomes a dough, roll it out to a thickness of 1cm. Using bat biscuit cutters or a knife, cut out the dough into bat shapes and place onto your baking tray. Bake for 8-9 minutes and set aside to harden for a few minutes. While waiting for them to cool,
simply mix together 400g icing sugar, 3-4 tablespoons of water and 3 drops of black or orange food colouring to create your icing. Once the biscuits are cool, top them with your icing and your bat biscuits are ready to be eaten.
Bug Soup
For this slimy recipe, you will need four packs of lime jelly, two bags of bug sweets (for example chewy worms) and a packet of Oreo biscuits.
Start by making up four packs of lime jelly by following the pack instructions. Fill your glass containers half full with the liquid jelly and put three or four bug sweets into the jelly. Once this has set in the fridge for a few hours, pour the rest of the jelly into the containers and add a few more bug sweets, letting some stick out over the sides of the container. Pop in the fridge to set.
Just before serving, crush your Oreo biscuits and sprinkle the ‘soil’ over each jelly. And there you have it... Bug soup!
