Olney hosts an OXJAM
An event for the UK’s biggest music festival
The tenth annual Oxjam Music Festival will include an Acoustic Folk Roots Night at The Two Brewers on Olney High Street on Friday October 16th. The Oxjam festival runs throughout October and is made up of hundreds of events across the
country which are organised by volunteer ‘gig-makers’ in their own home towns. The events feature musicians from the local area who have all agreed to perform for free, so that funds can be raised for Oxfam’s life-saving work across the world.
For the Olney event, we are lucky to be able to draw on the excellent musical talent in the local area. Headlining Folk Night at the Brewers is Milton Keynes-based singer-songwriter Sian Magill who is becoming well-known locally for her intense performances and superb musicianship. Providing the chance to hear the unusual, peaceful, sound of the hammered dulcimer, Caroline Riches who works at the Open University, will be treating us to some Celtic tunes. John Timpany and Janice Miller, who run the MK Roots School, and are involved in many aspects of the local music scene, will be providing us with traditional folk songs accompanied by guitar and penny whistle. The Big Fiddle Band, which includes players of all ages and abilities from Olney, Newport Pagnell, Stoke Goldington, and beyond, is the final member of the line-up. They play unusual arrangements of tunes from England, Scotland, Ireland, as well as specially written tunes and tunes from further afield.
The Oxjam Olney Acoustic Folk Roots Night will be held in the upstairs

room of the Two Brewers, and will include a break in the music for us to have a chat and enjoy a fish and chip supper (or veggie sausage). David and his staff at the Brewers have been very supportive of the event, which is also enabling us to raise more money for Oxfam too. We’ll also be holding a raffle (prize donations welcomed).
If you’d like to join us at the UK’s biggest music festival, tickets for Oxjam Olney, which include the music and your supper, are available from Oxfam Books and Music in Olney (£12) or online from WeGotTickets (£12.10 total – they donate some of their fee to Oxfam too). You’ll need to buy your ticket by Monday 12th so that David can order the lovely fresh fish for our supper.
