MK Dons - Matt Delaney
Dons Buckle Against Belligerent Brummies. On Saturday 24th August MK Dons suffered their second home defeat of the championship campaign when they were comfortably beat 2-0 by in form Birmingham City. Second half goals from Jacques Maghoma and former MK man Steven Gleeson proving to be the difference between the two sides.
Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock in the first half, the initial chance came for Birmingham after Antony Kay conceded possession in front of his own goal, but Mitch Hancox couldn’t take advantage of the centre back’s mistake, shooting just wide of David Martin’s goal. Fancy footwork then took Dons winger Rob Hall past 3 defenders and in on goal, his shot however, bending just past the post. The best chance of the match for the home side came on the stroke of half time, slick final third passing from the Dons presented Samir Carruthers a chance in front of goal with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he blazed his shot into the side netting, wasting the opportunity.
The breakthrough for the visitors came twelve minutes into the second half, Steven Gleeson curling delicately past David Martin after good hold up play from Clayton Donaldson. The
In Brief
former Dons man then opted to celebrate at his old home ground, which was met by jeers from the home faithful. The nail in the coffin for Dons came in the 79th minute with a swift counter attacking move, engineered by Donaldson and finished calmly by Maghoma, burying Karl Robinson’s side.
Birmingham remain undefeated in the 2015/16 Championship campaign, whilst MK Dons will try to recover from this defeat to continue their firm start to the season.

Olney Artist Edward Robinson
“I have just found out that a painting I entered into the ING Discerning Eye exhibition has been selected,” reveals Edward Robinson from Olney, who features in the October issue of The Artist magazine.
The Discerning Eye annual exhibition is a show of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from different areas of the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. Work is selected from open submission and from artists invited by the individual selectors. Each selector’s section is hung separately giving the impression of six small exhibitions within the whole.
The 2015 ING Discerning Eye Exhibition will be held at the Mall Galleries, The Mall,
London SW1, and will be open to the public daily from Thursday 12 November until Sunday 22 November. Entrance will be free and all works will be for sale. Prizes range from £250 up to £5,000.
Edward completed a graphic design and illustration course at Great Yarmouth School of Art (now Norwich School of Art) and moved to London working for some of the leading design and advertising agencies. During his career he obtained several national and international design awards and became a fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers. Since becoming a professional artist his work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Edward’s work will also be on show at ‘The Market Place’ gallery from 24 September 2015.
IndieGo Nights
The next IndieGo Night at The Two Brewers in Olney takes place on Thursday 8th October at 8pm, and this month they are trying to raise funds for the Olney Newton Link.
Last month’s IndieGo Show had some wonderful acts. The brilliant Steve Wells came to play for us, as did the fantastic Lee Smith from local band Fixed Bayonets. They also had local comedian Joe Seville putting smiles on people’s faces. Ian Roberts’ daughter Naniene and her friend Sarah Langley came to play some of their songs. These girls are just 14 years old but are already gracing some very good stages with their talent.
To end the night they had a “local super- group jam” where Ian Roberts and Jack Isaac jumped up on stage and jammed along with Steve Wells and Lee Smith.
If any artists would like to come along and perform then please get in touch. This month they have two really top class comedians joining them; Mr Andy and ex Olneyite Mike Lord. It’s FREE entry and the show starts at 8pm. But get there early, they always have a good crowd. If you would like to perform then please contact: ian@ianrobertsmusic.org.
