Big Shave
Newport Pagnell Town Football Club
Newport Pagnell Town Football Club have a saying, ‘Small Town – Big Heart’ and they more than lived up to the billing at their recent charity event the ‘Big Shave’. Guest of honour, Jaycee May O’Connor, came along with her
family to witness Swan’s first team manager Darren Lynch have his beard shaved off in aid of the four year old local girl who has Rett Syndrome.
The rare condition, that predominantly affects girls, stunts development of the brain and leads to rapid regression and a loss of skills such as crawling or sitting.
This means that Jaycee May is non verbal and she also has regular seizures.
Jaycee May’s family are trying to raise the money needed to buy life changing Tobii Eyegaze technology, the equipment that will finally give her a voice and enable her to communicate with others, something that we all take for granted.
Before the event Darren said, ‘This is an amazing little girl who needs this equipment far more than I need this beard’.
So far, Darren and the club have raised over £1800 for this wonderful cause. Jaycee’s mum, Rebecca, said, ‘We are completely overwhelmed and simply want to say a massive thank you to Darren for doing this for us and also to Ben Sharpe and Andy Gunn who helped organise the event’.
