Court Resurfacing
Try tennis this summer!
Olney is taking part in the Great British Tennis Weekend on May 15th. Just come along between 10am and 12 noon and you can have a knock, talk to the Committee and Coaches and see if tennis is for you and your family.
In the same afternoon, the club is running again an American Tournament to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. Everyone is welcome to enjoy sociable tennis and tasty refreshments on May 15th at 2pm. Please enter by calling Simon on 01604 696968. Everyone is also invited to enter our popular summer club tournament sponsored by Stephanie Price Wealth Planning. There are Mens and Ladies Singles and Mens, Ladies and Mixed Doubles. Look out for entry forms.

The summer season is underway and Olney have 9 teams in action playing in the Milton Keynes and Bucks leagues. After two promotions in the winter season, we are keen for as many people as possible to play for Olney, so just let Nigel or Eleanor know if keen.
In the Summer MK Cup, our Ladies C team came a close second against Milton Keynes TC last night in the Div Three and Four Cup match. Jacqui and Beryl lost the rst set but won the second set 6-2. And their second match ended 4-6, 6-4... honours even. Liz and Lynne secured their rst set 6-3, before going down 1-4 in the second. They rallied to bring the score back to 4-4 before dropping serve to lose the set 6-4. They were somehow outplayed in their second match and went down 6-3, 6-2. Overall we lost the match 5 sets to 3.

The Easter holiday camps went really well with over 60 children enjoying playing and improving their tennis in a fun environment.
Club Developments
The resurfacing of Courts 2 and 3 has been completed. Court 4 will be resurfaced in the autumn, The clubhouse will also be refurbished during this time giving us a great facility.

Olney Bowling Club
Our 2016 season is under way! The Green looks as good as it ever has. Let’s hope we can build upon a very successful 2015. Our membership presently stands at over 100 (a record high) so pressure for places in
matches is high. A complete list of xtures can be found on our website. The winter Table Tennis Tournament was won by Dave Hoyland without losing a single match! Well done Dave, pity Liverpool FC couldn’t match your achievement!
For the fourth year running our bar management team have been able to hold bar prices at the same level. So the best pint of Eagle in town is still only £2.50! For the same price you can enjoy a brace of Grouse! Our Open Day this year is on May 8. Everyone is welcome to come down and try their hand. Look for our advert in this edition of Phonebox. April was a big month for our longest serving member. Ken Mynard celebrated his 90th birthday on the 4th of April having joined the Club in 1958. Ken must have had an eye for the game because he won his rst trophy, the Singles Handicap, the following year, 1959. That 84 Phonebox Magazine | May 2016
2016 Season is under way
same year he also won the Triples with Lisle Orchard and Fred Sutton. Ken was Club champion in 1985, 1986 and 1987, losing in the nal in 1988 to Will King. He played for the County on several occasions and was our worthy President from 2008 to 2010. Congratulations Ken. I know you had a lovely birthday and the celebrations went on for several days!
Once again Olney Bowling Club is proud to host a match against MK Moles, a club for partially sighted bowlers, in this their 25th anniversary year. Always enjoyable, the match is on May 24 at 10.30.
The other xture that stands out in May is the start of our Bucks Cup campaign against Stony Stratford on the 25th. Should be a busy night behind the bar!
Our Social Event this month is the ever popular Quiz Night on the 13th. Given an extra edge this year being in competition with the Olney Runners. So we need our best brains on the job. Oh dear! Worth the entrance fee just for the Fish and Chip supper.
