e don’t have a problem with water in UK, do we? Sometimes we seem to have far too much and at
other times we moan because it hasn’t rained for a few weeks. Whatever the conditions, in this country we rarely, if ever, turn on the tap only to find it has run dry. As we all know, however, it is not like that in many countries of the world and Sierra Leone is no exception. Being an equatorial country of course it has a rainy season and a dry season and one is tempted to think that they must be geared up to collecting enough rain in the rainy season to see them through the dry season. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work out like that. In the Newton area there is no water on tap no matter what the season, they have to rely on water wells and pumps. At the end of the dry season, particularly if the rains are delayed, these wells run dry.
We have always been aware that a well is required to supply water to the Training Centre, now called the Newton Institute, and digging for one was begun a couple of years ago but they struck rock and it came to a halt. Now that the Preschool is being built in the same area there is an urgency to get

this well rebuilt so that water can be supplied and toilets flushed. The work has begun and we now need £2,000 to complete it. Can you help please?
How can we help?
Donations of money, however small, are always very welcome but we send out other goods as well as money. We are particularly keen to send sports kit, books (reasonably up to date please) on such topics as banking and finance, any type of
engineering, maths and computer studies. We love to have computers but they must be in good order and clear of all personal data. Please let us know if you can help with any of these items. We also gratefully receive items large or small that can be used as raffle or tombola prizes.
