Lavendon Royal British Legion
T70 Years of Lavendon Boy’s Brigade
here was a very special presentation The association between 6th Boys’ Brigade and made at this year’s annual Cheese Lavendon was such that when the Village Hall & Wine Evening in aid of the Poppy was opened in the 1950s the Brigade Band was Appeal, put on by Lavendon Branch of invited to give a display and play at the opening
the Royal British Legion. ceremony. The Band’s Drum Major at that time
For nearly 70 years the 6th Northampton Company of The Boy’s Brigade has been involved with the Lavendon Branch by providing the buglers for the Sounding of The Last Post and Reveille at the Lavendon Remembrance Sunday Church Parade. The association started in 1946, with an ‘Old Boy’ of the 6th Boys’ Brigade, serving with the Headquarters Company of Royal Army Ordnance Corps stationed at Cold Brayfield House. Private Gordon Hart responded to the Company Sgt. Major’s enquiry to nd a bugler within Headquarters Company to play Last Post and Reveille at the forthcoming Lavendon Parade. Private Hart stepped forward, and after obtaining the loan of a bugle from the 6th Boys’ Brigade in Northampton, and with the Boys’ Brigade Band Master’s blessing, duly played for the Lavendon Parade in 1946.
was Terry Broughton, who later became Band Master for a period following his demob from the Army in 1958, and as a young Boys’ Brigade Lieutenant also carried the Battalion Colour on the Colour Day Parades. Having served as a Sgt. Drill Instructor at Aldershot, and with the Boys’ Brigade connection with Lavendon Royal British Legion, Terry became a member of the Lavendon Branch, and was for many years the Standard Bearer. Before his death, Gordon Hart had over 50 years’ service as a member of the Lavendon Royal British Legion and Terry has had 30 years and is still supportive and involved with the 6th Northampton Company of The Boy’s Brigade.
For some years now the bugler from the Boys’ Brigade has been Lieutenant Richard Forskitt and the Branch is delighted that he has pledged to continue to support us on Remembrance Day.
