Earls Barton Rally
The organisation for this year’s Rally which runs from 27th-29th August is progressing well. This year they have The Jez Averry Stunt Show in the main arena every day plus the usual vintage parades, the sheep dogs and the Bernese Carters. Sheridan the Sheepdog is paying them a visit and will be mingling with the crowds. There is a funfair, Punch and Judy and Bouncy Castles and water zorbing for the children. Trade and Craft stalls for the ladies and the Beer Tent and Vintage displays for the gentlemen. In the Rural Area the Viking village will be in residence and putting on a display in the Country Area. Fengate Forge will have a working display and the Tea Room is well worth a visit.
They are hoping for better weather this year and looking forward to meeting new people. As always they are in need of help both during the week before when they set up and on the actual Rally days. If you feel you would like to be involved, for how long or short a time, please contact Robert Hollowell on 07960 082975 or Pat Conroy on 01933 663454.
Newport Pagnell Vintage Weekend
Newport Pagnell Town Council intends putting on a vintage weekend in 2017 focussing on the 1940s.
Already confirmed are two static aircraft displays: the Spitfire and Messerschmitt, along with their re-enactment crews for the weekend, and the Military Police re- enactment group will be there, finding and arresting any spies who may be present. A parade will take place through the High Street, there will be indoor displays to view, stalls to procure those vintage items and a dinner dance.
It is hoped that the whole town will join in celebrating the weekend. Get ready to Lindyhop the night away!
If you are interested in helping then the date of the next meeting is Wednesday 13th July,
6.30 pm-7.30 pm at Newport Pagnell Town Council, 80 High Street, Newport Pagnell. Please phone the Town Clerk, Shar Roselman or email her at townclerk@newport-pagnell. org.uk if you are interested in joining in.
The Cannon Fundraising
The Cannon Pub in Newport Pagnell is celebrating after raising over £12,000 to support the specialist end of life care provided at Willen Hospice.
Over the last twelve months, staff and regulars have undertaken a series of fundraising activities, including a sponsored silence, an auction, a 10p coin wall, a weekly meat raffle and much more, all with the aim of raising as much as possible to support the care at Willen Hospice.
Dawn Clark, Fundraising Manager at Willen Hospice said, “We are so grateful for the wonderful support shown by everyone at the Cannon. Once again they’ve made an incredible contribution to helping the Hospice and we’d like to offer a huge congratulations and massive thank you to all for their fantastic fundraising achievement.”
Hooked On Books
The theme on June 11th when the Hooked on Books Club members met in Olney Library was poetry and verse. Poetry readings, creative writing, colouring and word games ensured a fun filled morning for all present.
Hooked on books club at Olney Library
The opening readings by Lydia, Charlie S and Charlie B introduced some of their favourite poets and some of their own compositions. Many budding poets created and shared their work throughout the morning, a big thank you and very well done to everyone. Hope to see you all again on July 9th for an adventurous Enid Blyton morning.
In Brief
Referendum Vote
Ron Groom
I could have made a difference
My vote...it could have tipped the scale I’m feeling so embarrassed, red faced and yes, well, harassed
My friends have told me I’m beyond the pale
I made a note, in deep red ink Boldly, word for word
The calendar hung there, behind my office chair
That day in June, oh yes, the twenty-third
I then refused the papers, Switched off the old TV
Ignoring all the capers, from experts “hark to me”
I didn’t want distractions,
To swerve me from my choice
My vote was too important Though just a single lonely voice Well, on the day appointed
I made my way to vote
But then I came disjointed
They said “you’ve really missed the boat” “T’was yesterday, you great big nit Don’t you write it down?”
So then I wandered blindly, for hours around the town
‘T’was later I rushed homeward
‘the calendar can’t lie
I checked the day, the month, the year And then I had to cry
It had hung upon the wall
Since two years last July!!!
