The summer school holidays are well under way and there is probably a child somewhere complaining how bored they are. Well, you shouldn’t worry as Phonebox Magazine have put together a whole month’s worth of activities to keep the young and the young at heart
occupied this August. Here’s our guide to the summer season.
1st
Cinema
countryside around where we live. It’s free and suitable for all ages. See pages 48 and 49 for all the directions.
5th
Middleton Hall Beach
Are you longing for sand between your toes? Well the beach in centre:mk will give you that tropical beach feel right on your doorstep, even if it’s raining, because it’s all indoors.
6th
MK Museum
Take a look back at the local history around Milton Keynes, the museum gives an insight to what life was like before the ‘new city’ was ever built. Perfect all weather entertainment.
7th
Family Lawn Games
It’s the first day of August and if you’re feeling the effects of the hot weather, then cool off with a cinema trip to see the latest Ice Age film – Ice Age: Collision Course.
2nd
Santander Cycles MK
Get out on your bike and explore the miles of redways around Milton Keynes using these new hire bikes. Various hire options are available from 30 minutes to 24 hours. See page 87 for more information.
3rd
MK Playday
Wicksteed Park - 25th August

Salcey Forest
Join a ‘Magical Lessons for Muggles’ session, run every Tuesday until the end of August. Aimed at families with children aged 6-12 years. (Must be pre-booked)

Situated in Kempston, this oversized aquapark allows you to leap, climb and swing your way around various obstacles. The perfect place to cool off.
11th
Bikeability
Gain practical skills and understand how to cycle on today’s roads with Bikeability. With different levels to suit all ages and abilities, this cycling proficiency course can give you and your kids confidence and skills for all kinds of cycling. 09.00-12.00 at Giffard Park Primary School.
12th
Finding Dory and Nemo week at The Kiln
Come along to The Kiln in Bedford and paint your very own pottery. Choose a clown fish like Nemo or a blue tang like Dory and recreate your favourite character.
13th
Bug pom pom craft
Join in with some family fun at Bedford central library. From 11.00-12.00 your kids can make minibeasts out of pom poms to take home and play with.
MK Playday in Campbell park is the biggest day of play presented by MK Play Partnership with lots of activities, games, sports and stage entertainment. It’s suitable for all ages and is free entry.
Visit Woburn Abbey and spend some quality time with the kids on one of their monthly family Sundays. 10.00-17.00
