I suppose these are all just coincidences and if nothing else a warning to keep your eyes open if you're having an affair. Or an instruction to buy a false beard.
I don't really believe in fate and all that stuff. The chances are that if you know enough people you're bound to bump into them now and again in unexpected places.
However there was one very odd occurrence many years ago. I went out with a girl called Jane from Ealing, and our swift relationship was interrupted by the fact that I rather fancied her sister and it ended up with neither of them liking me very much. About six months later I was driving past the Swiss Cottage pub on my way to central London. I'd never been in that pub and even though it was only about 11 in the morning I had an urge to go in and have look at it even though I was slightly pushed for time. I parked up and walked in and both Jane and her sister were in there drinking coffee. They were as surprised as me as apparently they'd just been talking about how ghastly I was. Also they had agreed to meet there only because it was an easy landmark and neither of them had ever been in there before that visit. We had a somewhat stilted chat over coffee, and we went our separate ways. We've never met since and I haven't ever been back to the Swiss Cottage pub, and bet they haven't either. So I guess serendipity works both ways.
