Newport Pagnell and Olney Lions Club
Your Pride of Lions grows thanks to Kim
Your Lions club is one member stronger after local girl Kim Smith accepted our invitation to join the group and following a short induction ceremony at our last meeting is now a fully fledged Lion. We are delighted to welcome Kim who has been helping out at various events over the past few months and we are sure that she will help take the club into our 40th year.
Do you think you could put something back into your local community in Newport Pagnell or Olney? Why not have a chat with any of the Lions members at any of the events we attend to see if you can help out.
News from our last meeting
At our August meeting, we decided to provide additional backing to the local MS Group who have a monthly meeting in the Olney Centre. Having paid for their initial rental charges, we have agreed to help secure their future by financing a further two years, helping to reduce the outgoings of the group which provides so much support to local sufferers from the debilitating condition of MS.
We also discussed an approach which we had received from the Concrete Calves Wind Band which is a small woodwind band for adults which was formed in 2014. This group is quite different from most bands as it provides a facility for musicians who are not at the higher skill levels and were looking for some funds to help cover their increasing
costs. We finally agreed to make a nominal donation to the band to help them continue with their work.
Our next Malt Whisky tasting
Those who enjoy the odd Malt whisky may be interested in joining us for our next Lions Toast whisky tasting event which will be taking place on 14th October at the Carlton House club.
Having had plenty of experience of the Scottish malts and dabbled in Welsh and English variations at our previous Lions Toast events, we will be moving further afield by sampling a range of whiskies from the Indian sub continent.
Paul John Whisky is taking the malt whisky industry by storm and has won a number of awards including the famed Concours Mondial de Bruxelles gold award, International whisky silver award 2016, Jim Murray Whisky bible Liquid Gold standard award and many others. Shilton Almeida from the distillery will be visiting Olney to introduce us to the range of malt whiskies produced in Goa and give us an insight into the industry within India – one of the major Whisky consuming countries in the world.
To set the evening off, we will also be complementing the spirit with another Indian experience, namely some curries from the Carlton club’s kitchen.
Tickets, priced £25 will shortly be available but you can pre-order yours by dropping a note to us via our ‘Contact Us’ page on the website.
Psychic Night
Our two psychic evenings were a step into the unknown for us but under the guidance of Lion Tina, both events were extremely successful with the last one providing a more than emotive experience for many people who attended.
Our third event will see Jennie Grayson and Claire Evans return and we anticipate a bigger, better and (for us) hopefully a more profitable night.
Since her last visit to us, Jennie now regularly appears on the Sky TV, Psychic Today, Channel 886. This long standing TV show which has an avid following, has given Jennie the ability of giving help and advice to viewers on various shows throughout the week. Why not come along and meet her in person and have a chat with her and Claire, a psychic medium and spiritual advisor based in Milton Keynes. A review of her facebook page provides a fascinating insight into the help that she has provided to those who have had readings and consultations with her. Tickets are now available so please, if you want to go to this event, drop a note to us via the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website and we will reserve whatever you need.
Our Calendars are coming!
The Olney photos are in, our sponsors have selected the ones they want to adorn their pages and our intrepid Lions who are providing the Newport Pagnell photos have made their selection. We will shortly be going to print with our two town calendars and hope that everyone reading this will have plans to send one to friends and relatives far and wide.
First sales are planned for late September and we anticipate being a permanent feature of the Thursday market in Olney and the Friday Market at Newport Pagnell. Additional outlets will be carrying copies and with our free COD delivery locally, there isn’t any reason for you being unable to obtain a copy. Visit our website and drop us a note of your contact details (via our contact us page) and how many copies you want and arrangements will be made to deliver your requirements to your home as soon as we receive the finished product.
