Months of cold temperatures and rainy periods have not only suppressed growth and new life, but they have left people feeling down, too (the %u2018winter blues%u2019). But the coming of Spring signifi es the birth of new life, new ideas and new experiences: fl owers bloom, daff odils peek out of the ground, trees start to bud, insects appear, and lambs can be seen playing in the fi elds near the safety of their mothers. Spring was originally known as Lent, which came from the Old English word %u2018lengten%u2019, which means %u2018to make longer%u2019. And as Spring comes upon us the days are indeed starting to become longer. Centuries ago the season was known as %u2018Springtime%u2019, but it has, in time, become shortened to the term we use today, %u2018Spring%u2019. During March we will have the Spring Equinox, a marker in the Earth%u2019s annual orbit of the Sun. This year it%u2019s on Thursday 20th March, when the Sun will be shining directly over the equator, and day and night will be exactly the same length %u2013 12 hours.IS IN THE AIR AGAIN!Spring is coming and, as everything brightens up and the days last longer, you will start to notice new things appearing in the fi elds and woodlands around us.
