32 Phonebox Magazine | April 2025Eloise delivers another Pancake Race victoryOlney%u2019s 76th Pancake Race was won by past winner Eloise Kramer in 1 min 7 secs.The historic race is thought to have been fi rst run in 1445. The event in its current form started in 1948 and, two years later, it became an international event, with the town of Liberal, Kansas, running its own race on the same day. Eloise won two years ago but was beaten into second place last year. This year, the Olney winner%u2019s race time was just pipped by Liberal%u2019s fastest runner, with a time of 1.03.Eloise said: %u2018Yes, I%u2019m pleased with that. I really wanted to enjoy it. It%u2019s a lovely day and the sun is shining and that was good.%u2019 Linda Church came second, with Lupa Morera and Rebecca Budd tying for third place. The three-legged race was won by Emma Clarke and Stacey Knight. The tradition follows that all those taking part are women who work or live in Olney. Milton Keynes Mayor Marie Bradburn was among the special guests invited to watch the races. As well as the main race event, local schoolchildren take part in mini-races on the day, too. The Mayor joined Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire Countess Howe, High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire Kurshida Mirza, MK North MP Chris Curtis and Debbie Whitworth, Olney Mayor, to cheer the competitors on.
