Despite the drought we've been blessed with a good crop of maize from our farming land. The children from Casuarina House are now on school holiday and helping with chores. They harvested the maize cobs (looks like corn on cob) a few days ago. They removed the kernels with expertise and dried them out on a raffia mat in the sun ready to be ground into maize flour. Ugali, their staple diet, is then cooked from it.
This Summer has seen a new school uniform introduced at School. The colours of lilac and grey look very attractive and the children look very smart as you can see from the picture.

ʻCollars not Crueltyʼ is a new scheme which has been set up by the WSPA (World Society for Protection of Animals). In countries such as Sri Lanka, stray dogs are being unlawfully slaughtered because the government fear they carry the rabies disease, which they are desperately trying to reduce. However, donating to the scheme can help stop this from happening. Just £1.94 can provide a dog with a vaccine against rabies, and give them a collar to show this to the local citizens.
Collars not Cruelty has already been successful with their scheme in the country of Bali, but the biggest problem now lies in Bangladesh. It is up to us to stop this unjust culling.
