Small School... BIG Achievements! News from Emberton School
frames, magnets, plates, coasters and boxes, plus peppermint creams and coconut ice for the sweet toothed parents! We learned about advertising and marketing and enjoyed selling and counting money, all the while raising several hundred pounds to give to our chosen charity ʻChildren in Needʼ
A huge welcome back to everyone after the summer holidays and especially to all our new arrivals! What an exciting year you will have
In our Forest Schools learning with Mrs Kirkland we made bug boxes, fairy dens, collages and memory maps from natural materials. We were very excited to end the termʼs programme with an open camp fire on which we cooked chapattis and “pigs in blankets”, we canʼt wait to explore this style of learning more in the autumn term! We also enjoyed an outing to Harrold and Odell Country Park with our friends from Sherington School,
here at Emberton School!
We really enjoyed our Olympics theme in the last weeks of the summer term. A few of
our children braved the crowds to see the Olympic Torch Relay in Milton Keynes and then we were thrilled to receive a visit from Gary Denyer - an actual torch bearer who told us all about his ʻonce in a lifetimeʼ experience and how honoured he was to be one of the chosen few, in recognition of his services to charity. We finished the term off with our annual sports day where we
kindly funded by FOES. Activities included weaving Olympic head dresses from willow, pond dipping and of course - shower dodging! All excellent outdoor learning fun!
took part in flat races, team races, and ʻpotato on a spoonʼ races! Even the mummies and daddies were puffed out when they had a go!
Our parents enjoyed the
opportunity to share their
childrenʼs work at our Open
Afternoon; and then
attended our annual Leavers Assembly where our Year 2 children talked about their memories of Emberton School, what they will miss and what they are looking forward to at Middle School. They were presented with beautiful books and bookmarks from the school and photographs from FOES. Songs, poems and presentations of beautiful Creative Partnership masks rounded off the emotional event.
Our Creative Partnership project with Sherington School and St Andrews School culminated in a tri-school day, where we performed our stories written with the help of story telling artist Yaw Asiyama and using the masks created with artist Pippa North, that were inspired by Brian Wildesmith, author of “Favourite Fables”.
On the last day of term the Friends of Emberton School (FOES) organised a wonderful party for the children to celebrate the end of the school year, thank you to all involved.
Business was brisk at our Enterprise Venture Sale with Olney Middle School where we sold our beautifully decorated ceramic mugs, photo
