New Year, New Start for Olney NCT
You may have seen posters around the local area recently calling for new volunteers to get involved with the Olney branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), to prevent the branch closing.
We are delighted to say we have had a great response, with several new volunteers coming forward to join current volunteers. As a result we have formed a new committee, and have a new branch coordinator!
This is great news, because not only are the branch now able to continue to support local parents and parents-to-be, but we will be able to continue to run our hugely successful Nearly New Sales twice a year. Our next sale will be on 27th April 2013 at the Olney Centre.
Our new branch coordinator, Roisin Lester (pictured, with her son Isaac), who moved to Olney 18 months ago, said: “I didnʼt know many people when I moved here, and Olney NCT became a huge part of my life both during my pregnancy and once my son was born seven months ago,” she says. “When I heard the branch was likely to close I wanted to get involved to make sure it didnʼt happen. NCT is such a great charity, and the lovely people I have met through NCT groups have been a great support network and instrumental to my happiness as a new mum.”
Roisin is keen to ensure Olney NCT supports local parents in the best way possible. “Weʼd like to find out what Olney NCT should be doing to support local parents in Olney,” she says. “In the past, coffee groups and Bumps and Beyond have provided vital support to new parents. Weʼd now like to hear what parents in Olney would like to see – so please tell us your ideas and we will use them to help shape our plans for Olney NCT.”
And although we have a new committee, itʼs not too late to volunteer - giving just a little of your time would help. If youʼre keen to get involved, by doing things like being on the committee, or helping with organising or volunteering at the Nearly New Sales, weʼd love to hear from you.
