The Black Diamond Majorettes are currently looking for new recruits
I write to you on behalf of the Black Diamond Majorettes (formerly Amethyst Majorettes).
We are currently trying the recruit new members to join this troupe that has now been in existence in Milton Keynes for more than 17 years.
Over the years our number have dwindled and now we are facing closure.
Some people may ask: What is a Majorette? A majorette performs in carnival parades, at fetes, Charity events and competitions with a baton, pom poms and sometimes
ags. It can be hard work! The only thing we ask for is commitment.
We regularly visits other carnivals in Buckingham, Northampton, Wellingborough and Irthlingborough the troupe also takes part in Newport Pagnell Carnival. The troupe successfully has competed at competition level winning trophies along the way.
We recruit both girls and boys aged 6 plus. Training is on a Wednesday evening between 6.00 and 8.15pm in Wolverton. Fees are just £12.50 per month. We ask members to purchase their own baton and some jazz shoes to train in. We fundraise to purchase all other uniforms and equipment. Dear Editor
On Saturday 22nd June myself, my mum Gillian, and my sister Sharon will be setting off from London to walk the 62 miles (100km) to Brighton to raise as much money as I can for the British Heart Foundation.
The reason this charity is so close to my own heart is as my father Martyn has recently been very ill. He was born with congenital heart disease and has a very complicated anatomy. In the last few years this has come to
a head and my dad has had a big ght on his hands suffering numerous cardiac arrests and many operations trying to prolong his life. He has spent a lot of time in The Royal Brompton Hospital in London receiving specialised care and after his latest string of cardiac arrests he has been tted with a de brillator ready for the next time. When he does suffer his next cardiac arrest he will automatically receive a shock to the heart from the de brillator to try and help his heart regain a normal rhythm.
Without the specialised care and the expertise, and the help of the British Heart Foundation I believe I would have lost my father a long time ago. My dad has just celebrated his 54th Birthday and is currently enjoying life as much as possible due to the on-going care he receives.
Myself, my mum, and sister have been training for the last seven weeks trying to prepare ourselves for the walk following a training plan to include many miles and different weather conditions. Between us we have suffered many blisters, injuries, aches and pains! The walk is going to
be a massive challenge for us but I am con dent with all the love and determination we will succeed.
