The Table tennis for the “Over Fifties” group have
a singles and mixed doubles tournament once a year. The photos show the men’s singles winner Bob Mungham, the ladies single winner, Mo Etheridge and the mixed doubles winners Audrey Dempsey and Bob Mungham being presented with their trophies by club secretary Lynda Batty. The group is a very popular one and meets twice a week on Monday and Friday mornings at the Olney Centre. At the moment membership numbers are at their maximum, but if anyone is interested in joining, there is a waiting list to which your name can be added. The event is always enjoyed by all who take part. Not only is it very well organised by the club chairperson Carol Clarke and another member Chris James, entrants always remember the ‘fun’ element of the occasion.

Awards and Celebrations of new Leaders
On Thursday 23rd May Mark Lancaster MP presented Leadership awards to an amazing group of young people in Olney. These young people had completed a National Course which was developed to provide young people with the skills and practices required in leadership. The course was run locally by St Peter and St Paul’s church, Olney, and led by Nic Blackmore and Becky Whiteley.
Those participating in the programme had to undertake study surrounding business practices and ethics, practical exercises and events in leadership, and attend weekend residentials. For the duration each participant was provided with a personal mentor to support them.
On receiving their awards many of the group remarked on how they had become more con dent, now understood that leadership relied on teams, and that long-term leadership meant allowing others to discover their own strengths through providing opportunities and encouragement.
Several of those who received the awards are already exercising their new skills in the planning of the new projects planned for the Church hall, including the Youth Café.
Those receiving the awards were Joe Ayling, Josh Eglinton, Alex Colson, Corrie Coslon, Alex Daley, Ella Sheaf, Rosie Haskell and Sophie Wood.
