Enjoy the Wimbledon Experience at Olney Whether you are lucky enough to be going to Wimbledon or not, you can enjoy a great experience playing tennis at Olney – immaculate courts in lovely surroundings and a buzzing, friendly environment. Just bring your own strawberries, cream and Pimms! You can book a court at Davis in the high Street for a game but we hope you’ll nd our low price memberships for all ages to your taste. So whether you’re a regular, occasional or new player, give tennis a try this summer at Olney.
Summer Tournament – sponsored by the Jardine Motors Group.
The draw has been made after a large number of entries, particularly in the popular Mixed Doubles. We are delighted to have the main event of the year sponsored by the Jardine Motor Group (dealers in new and used Audi and VW vehicles) in Milton Keynes who has become our major 2012 sponsor.
New Junior Club Night
To meet the demand for more Junior play from the big number of eager youngsters, the club has started a Saturday afternoon Junior Club Night. It usually runs from 4-6pm and is supervised by our coach Liz Brewster. It is free of charge and supported by Fernley Electrical, a very supportive local rm. The rst sessions have been really popular with the kids having great fun from mini reds to green ball. You can try it out as a non member, so do come along soon. There is even a tuck shop! Parent and Child Tournament
Despite the icy blast coming across the river meadows....we had a great tournament, with three round robin draws.
The 9&U’s played orange ball, with Jossy Young and her Dad winning all the matches. Jake Sargeant and his Dad came second. The closest match was between Harry Bennett and his Mum against Ester Pibworth and her Dad. It was Ester’s rst time playing with an Orange ball...so well done to Ester.
Adult Team Summer Season results
The Bucks Mens team start season with a big victory. Seemed like summer as we enjoyed our post match tea on the grass after beating Great Missenden 8-1 at home. Olney’s team was Simon Barter, Chris Wright, Mike Macdonnell, Ian Dunkley, Phil Bennett and Tom Field.
The Mens B were knocked out of the Cup but bounced back with a good draw against Buckingham’s A team after good play by Brian Worsfold, Stuart Ayling, Fraser Chamberlain and Simon Barter.
The Mens C pulled off a resounding win against Buckingham B, winning all the sets thanks to Stuart Ayling, Tom Field, Phil Bennett and Simon Barter.
The Ladies A are in the top league and all matches will be tough this season. The rst one was and the team went down against Stony Stratford after a hard struggle by Margaret Currie, Katie Bennett, Anne Foulkes and Glynise King.
The Ladies B lost a tough match against Woburn Sands A despite the efforts of Sarah Wilkinson, Lynda Baker, Beryl Rook and Anne Bacon.
The Mixed A out a top team against Milton Keynes in their rst match with both of Olney’s coaches, Nigel Willard and Gavin Fowell winning all sets with their partners, Katie Bennett and Eleanor Carter.
There was a good atmosphere when the Olney Mixed B and C teams clashed in the
start of the season derby. The B won to form comfortably after many good rallies. Olney B were Beryl Rook, Sarah Wilkinson, Dan Avenell and Philip Ramos and Olney C were Jo Bedward, David Tonnison, Richard Brown and Liz Brewster.
The Mixed B won their second match against Wolverton after a big struggle with the victors being Sarah Wilkinson, Phil Bennett, Chris Wright and Beryl Rook.
The Mixed C secured a good draw against Newport Pagnell thanks to Stuart and Ruth Ayling and Jo Wetherill and Nick Hardy. More Junior Success
News from the County U11 team which Olney’s Tim Ball played in. Tim played at No.3 against a Northants Boy and won his debut county match 4-2, 4-0. Tim then played up a position and was edged out of win by Norfolk and then Suffolk. The team nished an excellent 8th. Well done Tim and the rest of your team mates.
More brilliant news. Susannah Cornwell was selected for the Bucks County U12 girls team for an 8 county event in Herts.
The Olney U9 team had a 16-2 win against Stony Stratford – well done Ethan, Jack and Jossy.
Moonwalk fundraising
Well done to Jo Walker and friends who completed the London Moonwalk in style and raised over £2000 to ght breast cancer.
