TOLNEY TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
he season for our four Teams ended on Sunday 12th May Many observers still believe that the players just turn up and play each but the Committee and Managers are already planning week but the Committee would like to place on record their thanks to for next season and the start of pre season training is all players who commit to training two nights a week plus giving up already in place for Thursday 4th July at 7pm. most of their Saturdays!
It has been a long season that at times failed to build any momentum due to the two spells of poor weather which affected matches but overall it has been a season of promise and we are all very excited about next year!
So... how about an end of season report...
1st Team
After a poor start to the season, failure to win at Pitstone and Ivinghoe in the Berks and Bucks Cup forced the Committee to review the managerial situation and after a couple of decent seasons we parted company with Neil Grif ths replacing him with Ed Wheatley and Ken Speed. After a tough run of games results picked up and in what can be arguably the toughest UCL season on record the team nished a respectable 9th but ended the season on a real high by coming from 2-0 down against promotion chasing Oadby Town to win 3-2. The poor weather caused many games to be rearranged and in the end a run of four matches in seven days just became too much for many aching bodies and we lost two Cup Semi Finals in the space of 48 hours. However the planning is already in place for next season and no doubt Ed and Ken will be talking to a number of players who will add value and strength to the squad.
Reserves
Once again the weather and xtures conspired against the reserve side led by Ian Clarke and despite promise at times and some good results we were never able to put in place a consistent run. On a positive note there were opportunities for a number of U 18s to appear on a more regular basis and we hope that with a full pre season under Ed and his team they will further ourish!
It was with regret that we accepted the resignation of Manager, Ian Clarke, and we hope to be able to announce his successor within the next week or so.
Sunday Team
Managed by Paul Bennett and ably assisted by Spencer Beaumont (both of Mad Mods fame!) plus a new sponsor “The White Hart” at Sherington, the Sunday Team have had a great year consolidating their place in the Premier Division with a 4th place nish. However they did reach the Final of the League Cup where they were narrowly beaten 2-1 with only three minutes of extra time remaining.
Vets Team
Once again the Vets have had a dif cult year with the weather playing havoc with the end of season run in, resulting in a little irtation with relegation, but the Team rallied to secure their place in the Premier Division. However they also reached the Final of the MKSVL Plate although they suffered a 2-1 defeat.
Next season Marc Brown will manage the Vets and I hear he is already on the lookout for youth!
Off the eld the Committee have continued to work tirelessly in ensuring that high quality football remains at East Street for many years to come. Next year will see some real changes at East Street with the new perimeter fences, pathways and technical areas!
The FA and UCL have been very supportive in our efforts to leave a real long lasting legacy at the football club and we hope that everyone will like the changes for next season.
Olney Town FC would like to thank the good people of Olney and members of the Council for their continued support!
PS. At the time of writing this we have just heard of a re in the Spectator Stand and also vandalism of the pitch just as the Council have worked hard on getting the facility ready for next year we have reported this to the Police but we would urge everyone who sees such activity to do the same and report any incidents.
